“Something special was happening here today, I saw businessmen, bankers, investors coming into Morant Bay, the new town centre…I realised a new wind was blowing,” said Mr. Robertson.

Much like Mr. Robertson, Dr. Fenton Ferguson believes the project will be a boost for St. Thomas. Dr. Ferguson also took time out to stress the importance of not only completing the project but doing so in a timely manner due to the magnitude of the development.
“I believe…that this project in size, scope [and] cost is the biggest thing that will happen for St. Thomas.” Stated Dr. Ferguson, he also stated “We have spent significant time building human capital…and therefore we are prepared for the development.”
Dr. Ferguson also stated “It must be supported in a bipartisan way to ensure its success.” emphasising the importance of both political parties for the completion of this project.
The Urban Centre at the old Goodyear factory is expected to be the mecca for consumers of public and private goods and services in the parish. The project is being funded through a joint venture between FCJ and China Harbor Engineering Company Limited and is expected to provide thousands of jobs at the 365000 square feet facility.
