FCJ COPS FOUR AWARDS AT PUBLIC BODIES CORPORATE GOVERNANCE AWARDS
Factories Corporation of Jamaica Limited on (December 11, 2019) walked away with four major awards at the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service/Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica’s Public Bodies Corporate Governance Awards held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston.
The Public Bodies Corporate Governance Awards are issued in four (4) traditional categories: Board Composition, Function & Structure, Corporate Governance Policies, Procedures and Practices, Compliance & Disclosure of Information and Risk Measurement & Management & Internal Controls.
Special awards are also given for: Best Annual Report, Best Website and Most Improved Public Body.
Factories Corporation of Jamaica copped the top prize in the category of Corporate Governance Policies, Procedures and Practices. This awards assesses the extent to which specific recommended corporate governance policies, procedures and practices in relation to the operation of the board have been implemented.
FCJ also copped the top prize for Best Website. This award recognises the public body whose website provides: relevant content, has a clear layout, has usability, interactivity and functionality. The website also has to be aesthetically appealing and has readable information.
The organisation was also selected as the 1st Runner-up for the Best Annual Report. This special award recognises the Public Body whose Annual Report best reflects: simplicity, consistency, clarity and conciseness in providing stakeholders with adequate Corporate Governance information and the entity’s Strategic Operations over the review period.
FCJ was also selected as the 2nd Runner-up for the Most Improved Public Body (PSOJ President’s Award). This award is given to the Public Body that in the opinion of the judges has demonstrated tremendous improvement in Corporate Governance practices overtime.
The awards competition is in its third year. This year 14 public sector entities entered. Among the 14 are the Betting Gaming and Lotteries Commission, Broadcasting Commission, Port Authority of Jamaica, EXIM Bank, the Development Bank of Jamaica, Jamaica Deposit Insurance Company, Jamaica Mortgage Bank, Jamaica National Agency of Accreditation, Housing Agency of Jamaica, National Health Fund, National Solid Waste Management Authority, the Heart Trust NTA and the National Water Commission.
