Factories Corporation of Jamaica (FCJ) says work on the Morant Bay Urban Centre is on track for completion in September.
FCJ Chairman Lyttleton Shirley says the centre provides a framework to facilitate the fusion between public and private sector entities.
China Harbour Engineering Company is building the $6 billion centre.
Work began on the 20-acre property in 2022.
Speaking during a tour of the facility on Thursday, Mr. Shirley said the urban centre will be a catalyst for economic activity and serve as a blueprint for similar developments, such as the Boundbrook Urban Centre to be built in Port Antonio, Portland.
“We took a little time in getting this development of the ground as we dotted our ‘i’s and crossed our ‘t’s, navigating through the many challenges to get this project started,” he said, announcing that the Morant Bay centre was “on schedule and within budget”.
