China-Jamaica Relationship Further Fortified
President of China Harbor Engineering Company Limited (CHEC) Americas Division, Dr. Zhimin Hu is calling for collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure that the Morant Bay Urban Centre development is a success.
CHEC and Factories Corporation of Jamaica Limited (FCJ) have united in a joint venture agreement to finance the development of the project.
Dr. Hu believes the joint venture between China Harbor and FCJ requires unity and cooperation.
“For success [in the] implementation of this project, the essential and vital assistance from Jamaican colleagues, from the highest officers to the local workforce and members of the local communities will be required,” said Dr. Hu.
On June 26th 2019, ground was broken for the Morant Bay Urban Centre project. Also, in attendance was Chinese Ambassador to Jamaica, His Excellency Tian Qi, who reinforced the project’s inclusivity, specifically China’s intentions to collaborate with all stakeholders for the success of the development.
According to Mr. Qi, “We are going to join hands with Jamaica to promote the connectivity of policy, infrastructure, finance, trade and people-to-people ties… we are ready to make great contributions to the developments, not only in Morant Bay, St. Thomas but in Jamaica as a whole.”
The Morant Bay groundbreaking further fortified the Chinese-Jamaican relationship which will bring significant benefits to the people of St. Thomas and Jamaica in general.
